|What’s so good about Good Friday?
It seems an odd name to remember a crucifixion. But the answer makes sense when we realize that it’s God who’s on the Cross.
Good Friday is good because only the Word of God in the flesh—Jesus Christ—could endure all the suffering and death that is the consequence of human sin. All the pain, emptiness and despair from betrayal, injustice, illness, lose and lack of love is brought to the Cross by Jesus. Only God could heal us—save us—from sin and all the darkness it brings into life.
He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24)
